As we learn and grow we let all our actions speak of God’s loving care

At the Annunciation Catholic Infant School we believe that Mathematics teaches pupils how to make sense of the world around them through developing their ability to calculate, reason and solve problems. It enables pupils to understand relationships and patterns between mathematics and everyday life. The programmes of study are, by necessity, organised into apparently distinct domains, but pupils should make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. Through their growing knowledge and understanding, pupils learn to appreciate the contribution made by many cultures to the development and application of mathematics. All pupils are encouraged to excel in Maths and new mathematical concepts are introduced using a ‘Concrete, Pictorial and Abstract’ approach. This ensures all pupils experience hands-on learning allowing them to construct clear images to aid their understanding. Our curriculum ensure children apply mastery skills and loosely follow the White Rose maths scheme. They should also apply their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects. We encourage resilience, adaptability and acceptance that struggle is often a necessary step in learning. We aim to prepare pupils for their future learning and ensure that all pupils develop strong mathematical foundations in a way that is enaging, and appropriate for their age and individual needs
