Design and Technology

Subject Intent for Design and Technology

At the Annunciation Catholic Infant School we believe that Design and Technology prepares pupils to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages pupils to make positive changes to their quality of life. This subject encourages pupils to become autonomous and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and working collaboratively as part of a team. The cross curricular nature of Design & Technology offers the opportunity for pupils to apply knowledge and skills from other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Throughout EYFS the pupils are exposed to various creative activities, through both adult led skill or knowledge focus tasks and child initiated activities using media and materials continuously available to them. Pupils learn how to take risks, become resourceful, innovative, and confident. In KS1, pupils continue to develop and refine the use of various tools and materials during the planning, designing, making and evaluating stages of their Design & Technology projects.
